FastTrack 385ft

Best Choice

FastTrack 385f

Review of FastTrack

According to our team of paddlers, the FastTrack inflatable kayak is one of the best in its class. This is one of the fastest inflatable kayaks on the market. The combination of the curved, sleek, sporty, narrow, touring shape with the inflatable keel and the large skeg provides the tracking performance of the rigid kayak, but with all the benefits of an inflatable. The design is very safe and stable and it comes with 3 years Warranty and 180 days money back guarantee.

The kayak weighs just about 35 lbs and it can be packed into a bag and put inside the trunk of a car and there will be still a lot of space available! The kayak is very light, but the loading capacity is 635 lbs. It gives you a lot of flexibility for extra baggage or paddling with a friend or family.

You can use this kayak in almost all types of water, we have tested the kayak even in rough sea conditions although not designed for. The performance is very good, even as the board is very low and close to the water the kayak is taking the waves with ease. Paddling on the rough sea involves a lot of water inside, but with the 2 drain valves open it can not sink. However, if you paddle on a lake you can really feel the speed of the kayak. With the inflatable keel at the bow and the skeg at the aft, it tracks straight to your target.

Our summary, this is the best inflatable kayak with high quality and great performance. In case of use in salt water, we recommend rinsing the kayak with fresh water after use, in order to avoid damage to the hull. In case paddlers are tall above average, they should deflate a bit the seats for better stability thus lowering the center of gravity. Do not use it for whitewater in rivers more than class II. Enjoy!

Needle knife keel

The unique inflatable keel provides better tracking and allows the kayak to proceed faster. Slicing through wind, waves and currents for one faster paddling experience. It also provides additional lift necessary for riding over the waves.

Removable Skeg

The Skeg is removable and gives better tracking of the kayak.  It should be used in any water except in whitewater where should be removed in order to protect it from damage from the rocks. Also while beaching from the sea you should have in mind that there is a Skeg behind. In any case the Skeg provides stability, speed and tracking in the right direction.

FastTrack inflatable kayak performs quite well in rough sea conditions. Intercepting a boat in the open sea. The captain gestured to get back as I am too far away from the shore.

Explorer 380x

Review of Explorer 380x

The name of this kayak is speaking for itself, it is designed for explorers. It is a very durable well-made inflatable kayak able to tackle with whitewater and open water. Easily tracking against the wind and the currents, but also it is very comfortable and dry in flat water. Just follow your dreams, if you like to do a few days river running, now it is OK. The kayak is suitable for whitewater up to class IV, you can paddle in the ocean or in rough seas and even in Alaska`s various weather conditions.

In order to perform well in all water conditions and to remain afloat the kayak is equipped with 16 very fast self- bailing drain valves. However, if you would like to paddle on a flat water you can close the valves and with the large skeg at the aft if will take you dry and fast to your destination.

This is a large capacity kayak able to load the gear of any explorer for any adventure. With the load capacity of 750 lbs, you can prepare all the necessary equipment. The kayak is very light with just about 39 lbs it could be carried over some off-road terrain, or deflated and put inside the trunk of the vehicle.

The tracking of the kayak is straight and speed is good due to the drop stitch high-pressure floor and the large removable skeg at the aft. It is also very stable and very durable kayak with 3 Years Warranty and 180 days money back guarantee. Basically, you can test it and if you do not like it they will refund you all the money, of course in case the kayak is in good condition.

Our summary is that this kayak gives you everything speed, balance, safety, just follow your heart and your dreams for exploring the nature.

Sea Eagle 370

Review of Explorer SE 370

This is the best inflatable kayak for the value! One of the first inflatable kayaks on the market and one of the most durable. The seams are high frequency welded and the material is 38 mil PolyKrylar.

Even the sharp shells at the quay or the dogs` nails can`t damage the hull, yes now you can take the dog inside the kayak.

The kayak is very light just 33 lbs / 15kg, but still, the loading capacity is 650 lbs /295 kg. We have tested the kayak loaded with 2 persons and full gear for a few days trip, it performs quite well.

The board of the kayak is a bit higher compared with the FastTrack and in rough sea conditions, it involves less water inside the kayak.  The floor is designed with 5 large tubes, which provides more rigidity and speed of the kayak. The tracking is quite well, with the help of the two small skegs at the bottom.

A great kayak outperforming its competitors in this price range. We only recommend changing the seats in the package with the deluxe one, as they are much comfy for longer trips. It comes with the standard Sea Eagle 3 Years Warranty and 180 days money back guarantee terms.

The kayak is not the fastest one, but it is suitable for whitewater up to class III and in the rough sea it is very stable and safe. You can go fishing, camping or river running. For this price, it is a great deal. Enjoy!

Air Valves of SE 370

The one-way air valves are very easy to use, they are designed the air to be pumped in without escaping afterward. Secured with O-rings they are attached to the hull and can not be lost.

Skegs mounted at the bottom of SE 370

The two small rear skegs provide the necessary tracking for every inflatable kayak. The skegs are not removable, but they are made from almost undamageable molded plastic. So they will not be harmed by hitting the rocks or going on the beach. With the skegs the kayak is easy to control and with less paddling efforts goes fast and straight.

I-beam floor of SE 370

The bottom is made of 5 larger i-beam tubes which provides more rigid inflatable floor and more rigid performance of the kayak. It improves the speed and tracking, which allows you to cover greater distances.

AE 1007

Review of AE 1007

This is a very popular kayak and the best convertible one. You can use it as a sit on top for easy access in the kayak while paddling in warm and calm waters. Also, you can transform this kayak in a sit inside if you are planning a trip in cold water and more rough waters so you can stay dry. However the optional deck is not included in the package price, so you need to buy it additionally.

This kayak has also another very interesting feature the optional aluminum frame (backbone), which makes the kayak more rigid and transforms the hull into a “v” shape for better tracking and performance.

It is sitting low in the water, but it is stable and maneuverable and there is a plenty of room for the legs.

The tracking is good with the skeg fin and especially if purchased with the backbone frame.

Well, some of the negatives are that is quite heavy for an inflatable, there is not much of a space for your gear, It takes more time to set it up and more time to dry up.

Package do not include paddles, pump, optional deck, backbone or drop-stitch floor, so you have to spend more money to make it convertible. The warranty is only 2 years.

In general, this is a multipurpose kayak, you can use it in calm water, in some whitewater, in warm or cold weather. It will serve you good and I am sure you will have great moments.

  • Type: Sit on top / Sit In – Convertible / solo or tandem

  • Price includes*:  AE1007 Hull, 2 folding foam mesh seats, repair kit, Carrying duffel bag, owner’s manual (Package does not include paddles)

You can buy optional decking, so the kayak will be transformed from sit on top to sit in. It will provide you with additional protection from the elements, which is not very common for an inflatable kayak. This is a great option.

You can also choose either to have the kayak with Backbone aluminum frame or with a drop-stitch floor for a better rigidity. The pity is that you can not benefit from both, but has to choose one of the options.

The Backbone is cheaper, but you lose more time for set up and dismantle.

The drop-stitch will cost you more, but once you put it you do not need to remove it as it is inflatable like the rest of the kayak, just to much higher pressure.

In any case whatever you chose the tracking and the rigidity will be quite good for an inflatable kayak.

Razor Lite 393RL

RazorLite

RazorLite

Review of Razor Lite 393RL

If you prefer to paddle solo and you need the speed of a rigid kayak, this is your best choice. RazorLite is maybe the fastest inflatable kayak on the market. It is competing for the first place with the FastTrack, but this is a solo kayak and is completely made out of drop stitch technology. It simply slices through the water like a hot knife in a butter. I think this kayak deserves to be called the fastest inflatable kayak.

This kayak is the first and maybe still the only one made entirely of drop stitch technology. This unique design allows inflating the floor and the side walls of the kayak to 10 PSI, which literally converts the hull in a hard shell. It is a considerably light kayak, and the loading capacity of 500 lbs is quite enough for all the necessary gear. The unique bow and stern design are made for only one purpose – speed!

This inflatable kayak can easily compete with all rigid kayaks, with an experienced paddler I bet on the inflatable. You will need some time to get used with the kayak stability and keeping the balance, but it is not so difficult it comes naturally. This kayak is really good quality, it tracks straight, cuts through the waves and now has footrests to relax on long journeys.

It comes with the usual Sea Eagle 3 years Warranty and 180 days money back guarantee. You will have many positive and remarkable moments with this kayak.

RazorLite unique bow and stern design

This unique design of the bow and the stern gives you speed a lot of speed. It works by creating pockets of air between the hull and the water, thus lowering the friction and making a glide effect like on a speedboat.

RazorLite DropStitch Hull and Side Walls

This is still the only kayak which could be inflated to 10 PSI. Making the hull and sidewalls a hard shell and providing rigidity like never seen on any inflatable. The more rigid is the kayak the better performs on the water, tracks straight, and is faster.

The advantages of an Inflatable Kayak

Durability

An inflatable kayak is made to be abused and kicked around; it will bounce off hard places with the greatest of ease. One of the main reasons why an inflatable kayak is so rugged is because it is made with drop-stitch technology.

This process involves joining a couple of pieces of polyester fabric with polyester thread. The two pieces are sewn together, and this creates a strong surface that is used as an inner layer.

Another reason why the typical inflatable kayak is so durable because the outer layer is created from PVC and rubber. This outer layer is combined with the inner layer of polyester, and the main building material for an extremely rugged inflatable kayak is created. There are more advanced techniques nowadays using materials like Hypalon and nitrylon.

Lightweight

An inflatable kayak is lighter than a hardshell kayak because it does not contain heavy plastic. It is made with lightweight materials, and this makes it easy to transport. Because of this lighter weight, it is more accessible for a greater number of purposes.

Storage

Storing an inflatable kayak requires little room. You simply deflate it and put it in a vehicle’s trunk or backseat. It will also fit snugly inside your closet, duffel bag or backpack.

Transport

An inflatable kayak lets you get to remote locations with less hassle. With a rigid kayak, you have to consider roof racks and kayak carriers wherever you go. You can place an inflatable kayak in your vehicle’s trunk or back seat and then carry it in your backpack to a destination far away from roads. These expanded options let you get more enjoyment out of your watercraft.

Security

You do not have to store your inflatable kayak outside your vehicle but can instead store it safely inside. That means you don’t have to worry about it getting stolen, so you can park your car anywhere you want while traveling to and from your kayaking destination. This extra peace of mind lets you have even more fun. Also, you can use a chain lock passing through the drain hole, in case you need to leave it inflated for a while.

Purchasing Tips for finding the best inflatable kayak

There are several things you should look for when buying a kayak. It is important to consider all of the options you have available, so you can have a positive purchasing experience.

Here is a handy list of items to consider when you are ready to buy an inflatable kayak:

Tracking system

This is one of the most important accessories for an inflatable kayak. Usually, the good inflatable kayaks come with a removable skeg attached at the bottom, which allows you to keep a straight line very easy. You can remove it if you are going on a whitewater.

Type of kayak

Like in the rigid kayaks there are mainly two types of kayaks sit on top and sit inside.

However, the most popular type is sit on top inflatable kayak, which can be used in any type of water from any paddler. Sit on top kayaks are very easy to get in and out. The sit inside requires some more skills.

Length

Most inflatable kayaks are about 12 feet long or so. This is long enough for them to be stable in the water and fit one or two people comfortably. Some inflatable kayaks may be as long as 16 feet, and this makes them more difficult to steer in the water and requires additional space. However those kayaks could be good for the whole family, everyone on board.

Where you will use the inflatable kayak?

For whitewater use, you need a self-bailing system. Most whitewater kayaks have this feature that consists of holes at the bottom of the craft. They allow for water to get out of the hull. You need to make sure that your self-bailing system has a one-way valve or plugs that won’t let water flow back into your kayak. So make sure drain valves are the open/close type which allows you to close them when paddling on flat water. You do not need water inside especially in the winter.

Weight Capacity

Most kayaks have a weight capacity that varies between 300 and 750 pounds. In order to figure out how much capacity you need, you need to consider what you want to do. How many people are going to ride in it? Where are you going to use it, and what are the conditions there? Are you going to be using it for fishing, and how much does your gear weigh? Make sure that you have enough capacity, so you can do everything you want to do. The bigger the better, usually capacity in the inflatable kayaks is quite enough for everything.

Seating Capacity

Whether or not you have someone to ride with you, you might want to think about getting a kayak with two seats instead of just one. You can put your cooler there, your tackle box, or maybe your fishing rod. There are many options available if you have another chair, so think about what (or who) you might want to bring with you when you make the decision to get one or two seats. In the end, if you are alone simply put the seat in the middle. The performance will be as good as with the solo.

Accessories

Most inflatable kayaks come in packages that have most everything you need. However, different packages contain different things.

Here are a few things you should look for when buying a new kayak:

  • Pumps – There are four different types of pumps:
  1. Single-hand pump – This device is a cylindrical pump that moves air when you press it down. This type of pump is perfect for high-pressure inflatables because it allows you to pump up to ten PSI without too much difficulty.
  2. Double hand pump – This is a cylindrical pump that moves air when you move it up and press it down. It will usually have an inflate and a deflate position on its handle. It is good for inflatables that only need around four or five PSI.
  3. Electric pump – This device uses your car’s power to fill up most of your kayak without any strenuous effort from you. You will still have to top it off with some other type of pump.
  4. Foot pump – A foot pump is smaller than the others, and that makes it easier to carry. You pump the air with your foot on the down strokes. It usually has an inflate and a deflated position. The foot pump is suitable for most types of kayaks, it is very easy to use and requires fewer efforts.
  • Paddles – You use paddles to move in the water. They are double sided and are identical to the ones used for rigid kayaks. There are several types of material used for paddles. The best one is carbon fiberglass as it is super light and strong. However, the aluminum paddles will do the same job for less money.
  • Removable skegs – These are fins on the bottom of your kayak that let you maneuver more efficiently. They make going in a straight line easier and are excellent aids for those who don’t have much paddling experience.
  • Rod holders – With these devices, you can have more comfort when you fish because you don’t have to constantly worry about holding your rod. Some inflatables have vertical holders and others have trolling ones.
  • Life vests – Everyone on the kayak must have one of these. They are a must have because they could save your life if something unexpected were to ever happen.
  • Helmet – It is a must when going into the whitewater. The rocks are tougher than your head. It is a lifesaver like the life vests.

Tips before and after your trip:

  • If you are planning a long trip, you better inflate the kayak a day before and leave it inflated to see if there is some air leakage.
  • If you are going to paddle on flat water always check if the drain valves are closed, you do not need extra water inside.
  • And the opposite for paddling on a whitewater always check if the drain valves are open, they will help you to stay afloat.
  • Don`t forget to mount the Skeg, it is very important to keep you in a straight line and for a better balance. Remove it for whitewater.
  • Always bring some fresh water with you, even on a short trip.
  • Check the weather, trip route, local rules and wear proper clothes for the water you are going to paddle.
  • Take safety precautions, always wear a life vest and a helmet if necessary.
  • Use some water-prove case for your mobile, and always take it with you.
  • If you are going to paddle alone, always tell somebody where you are planning the trip and for how long.
  • Always know your limits!
  • Enjoy kayaking with friends and family you will become more close to each other.
  • After the end of the trip take care of your kayak, so you can ride it for years.

FAQS related to best inflatable kayak:

  • How do I paddle?  Just like any kayak. Most inflatable kayaks come with a package of suitable paddles.
  • How long the kayaks last? The usual warranty is 3 years, but I have some inflatable kayaks from 6 years and still use them.
  • Is it durable? The well-made kayak is very durable, it can sustain direct hits with rocks and with the right care, it can last for years.
  • How do I find a hole in the hull? The best way is to put soap in water and spray the kayak while is inflated, so you can see the bubbles. Just mark the places so you can deflate and repair it.
  • How do I repair it? Deflate the kayak and clean the surface near the whole. Use the repair kit which comes with every inflatable kayak. Cut larger patch than the hole, use the glue on the hull around the hole and on the patch. Then put a lot of pressure on the patch while attaching it to the hull, you can even use your body weight just step on the patch. The larger pressure you use the better it will glue the parts together. At the end leave it to dry for at least 6 hours. If you bought kayak longtime ago, the glue could be expired. In this case, you can use any vynil plastic adhesive or the so-called liquid rubber.
  • How to store my kayak?  After use in salt water, rinse the kayak with fresh water as the salt is damaging the hull. Most of the kayaks have UV protection, but just in any case avoid storing them under direct sunlight. If you store them in a basement have in mind the rats could have a bite of it.
  • Modify? Yes, you can modify almost any inflatable kayak, you can put a motor, sail, fishing holders, different comfier seats, etc…
